About the band and this record
Scheme were Glasgow's "People's Band", from the Easterhouse housing scheme. With no record contract they sold out the Glasgow Apollo on 8 September 1984 — something no unsigned band had ever done — and Channel 4 filmed the 1986 documentary "Innocent As Hell" about them. Their songs mix rock and reggae with straight-talking lyrics about life in the schemes in Thatcher's Britain. "Black and Whites" is their debut LP (Schemesongs SCHEMELP1, 1986), recorded at CaVa Studios, Glasgow, and Sirocco Studios, Kilmarnock, and released on the band's own label.
